The Gate replaced the 7 storey Newgate House, home to the famous Mayfair club, which played host to many well known bands during its 35 year life. The Gate is a modern building drawing on design influences from innovative leisure developments in San Francisco, New York and Sydney.

Since opening, The Gate has expanded rapidly, now boasting 19 venues, many of which are new to the North East. Customers can currently choose from restaurants, bars and clubs through to the state of the art Empire Cinema and the new Aspers casino.

Secure and modern parking is conveniently situated directly beneath the building, with entrance from Stowell Street, and the complex also provides a wide range of customer facilities such as cash machines, internet access and baby change.
