The Story!

Pukka Properties aim to please, give great service and more than most student accommodation, understand what it is to be a student. So what's it all about? Well, here's the story - straight from the horses mouth!

"I bought 29 Devonshire Place in 1994, whilst studying at Newcastle University, in a state of disbelief that a bank would lend a ‘student’ that much money. They did and with 5 friends we moved in, I was the landlord and they the tenants, a weird relationship for great mates, but it worked.

map_properties.jpgFrom the start, the aim to try to buy a house rather than rent, was driven by our scepticism of what sort of property we would find on the open market.

Horror stories of scabby student accommodation, festering shag pile carpets, rotten beds and no hope of ever seeing your deposit cheque again, was enough for me to chance my arm with an estate agent.

The business has now grown to five properties, each a stones throw away from the other in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. We both rent and manage our properties, offering a direct service where problems are dealt with straight away. The houses are well looked after by Dave on the maintenance side and Leslie on the cleaning front, as well as a monthly gardener Ian over the summer.

Historically the properties have been let by word of mouth and being passed on from one set of tenants to another. We hope this is because we offer a fantastic service and give students what they want. Click the map above to see where we are"
