We are fully paid up members of the National Landlords Association.

Why did we do it?

The main features of the NLA are:

  • With its head office overlooking the Houses of Parliament in central London, the NLA is uniquely placed to represent the interests of private residential landlords at the national level.
  • With well over 13,000 members the NLA is by far the largest landlord association in the UK.
  • The NLA provides a telephone advice line. It is staffed by experienced professionals and is available to members throughout the working week.
  • Alone among landlord associations, raising standards in the private-rented sector is a core activity of the NLA.
  • Thanks to reasoned argument and a measured approach, the NLA enjoys the confidence of government departments.
  • Uniquely among landlord associations, the NLA was invited to provide a policy officer on secondment to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (now Communities and Local Government) to work on secondary legislation arising from the Housing Act 2004.
  • Published 6 times a year, the NLA journal, UK Landlord, is a flagship publication in its field and is distributed widely throughout the industry to politicians and other opinion formers.
  • The NLA produces a monthly e-newsletter that is distributed to more than 13,000 recipients.
  • Five of the largest buy-to-let lenders (Birmingham Midshires Solutions, Paragon Mortgages Ltd, Mortgage Express, Mortgage Trust and Bristol & West) are corporate members of the NLA and provide a forum for co-operating on trade and regulatory issues of mutual concern.
  • Over 50 Local Authorities are members of the NLA.
  • The NLA influences policy at local level, including Scotland and Wales, through its network of regional representatives and branches.
  • The NLA has developed a highly successful media campaign resulting in frequent mentions in local and national media outlets during 2005.
  • The NLA actively seeks to influence policy at the European level.
  • The NLA is the only landlords association to have been awarded a government contract to operate a tenancy deposit protection scheme which is administered by Hamilton Fraser Insurance Solutions plc.

Basically, it shows we are serious! We don't mind jumping through a few burning hoops in order to re-enforce our message of quality, well maintained rented accommodation at reasonable prices.
